Apostille services in Cape Verde

An apostille is a certificate that confirms the signature and seal on a public document, so that it is recognised in other countries that are party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention — without passing through an embassy.

Which documents can receive an apostille?

Public documents: civil registry certificates, criminal records, court documents, notarial deeds, diplomas issued by public institutions and administrative documents. Private documents, such as a signed letter or a translation, usually need to be certified by a notary first, and then the notarial certification receives the apostille.

Apostille or legalization?

If the country where you will use the document is a party to the Apostille Convention, an apostille is enough. If not, the document must follow the consular legalization route. Rules change and some countries have bilateral exceptions, so we check the current situation for your destination before starting.

The right order of steps

A frequent mistake is to translate first and apostille later, or the reverse, in the wrong order for the destination country. We plan the sequence — original, apostille, translation, certification — so that nothing has to be redone.

Frequently asked questions

How long is an apostille valid?

The apostille itself does not expire, but the receiving authority may require the underlying document (a criminal record, for example) to be recent, often under three or six months old.

Can I get an apostille on a copy?

On a certified true copy issued by a notary, generally yes. On a simple photocopy, no.

Do you also handle apostilles for documents issued in other countries?

Yes, through our international network we can obtain apostilles for documents issued in Portugal, the United States, France and other countries, for use in Cape Verde.
