Power of attorney

A power of attorney (procuração) lets someone act for you — to sell or buy property, deal with an inheritance, open a bank account or manage a company — when you cannot be there in person. It is essential for the many Cape Verdeans who live abroad.

From drafting to legalization

We help you prepare the text in Portuguese and the other language needed, arrange the signature before a notary, and obtain the apostille or legalization so the power of attorney is accepted where it will be used.

Signing from abroad

If you live outside Cape Verde, a power of attorney can generally be signed before a notary in your country of residence or at a Cape Verdean consulate, and then apostilled or legalized for use in Cape Verde. We prepare the bilingual text and tell you exactly what to bring.

Frequently asked questions

Can the power of attorney be in two languages?

Yes. A bilingual document (for example Portuguese and English) is often the simplest solution, provided the notary and the receiving authority accept it.

How long is it valid?

It depends on the content and the authority. Some institutions only accept powers of attorney issued within the last few months, so we recommend preparing it shortly before use.
