Consular and embassy legalization
Countries that are not party to the Apostille Convention ask for a chain of legalizations: the document is authenticated in the issuing country and then by the embassy or consulate of the destination country. We take care of every link in that chain.
How legalization works
The exact steps depend on the destination, but usually include authentication of the signature by the issuing authority or a notary, legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and finally legalization by the embassy or consulate of the destination country. Some embassies also require a translation into their official language.
Embassies and consulates
Most diplomatic missions accredited to Cape Verde are located in Praia; others cover Cape Verde from Dakar, Lisbon or elsewhere. We know which mission is competent, how to book appointments and which fees apply, and we submit and collect the documents for you.
Foreign documents for Cape Verde
The reverse also applies: a document issued in a country outside the Apostille Convention generally needs legalization by the Cape Verdean embassy or consulate in that country before it is accepted in Cape Verde.
Frequently asked questions
Which countries require legalization instead of an apostille?
Countries that have not joined the Apostille Convention, and countries that have objected to a specific accession. The list changes; we always confirm it for your destination.
Can you legalize business documents?
Yes: company registration certificates, powers of attorney, commercial invoices, certificates of origin and other documents needed for trade or tenders.
Do I need to be present at the embassy?
In most cases, no. We submit and collect the documents on your behalf.
